The article deals with the theoretical and methodological record of small State
theory research in the realm of foreign-policy-making in Europe in the 70ies and the early 80ies and tries to point out the reasons of the Stagnation in small State research in Europe in the last years. In the last part of the contribution proposals for a new departure for small State
research as a
promising "middle-range-theory" are presented and discussed.
